Book Review - Being a Catalyst By Chandramouli Venkatesan

This book by Chandramouli Venkatesan talks about being a catalyst for our own success in life and career.

The author emphasizes on the TMRR model (Target, Measure, Review and Reflect. It also highlights on doing simple daily exercise to spend time on reflecting your own action and self-introspect, “What could I have done better?

He also explains, why most of people succeed in first half of their career life but struggle to succeed in the second half? Being in the second innings of my own career span, I like the way author cites examples of pursuing ones hobbies or passion during this stage. How having a passionate hobby, motivates and impacts at our workplace. He also talks about making vital decisions as to understanding when to quit the current organization, and gives a guideline on making such important decisions.

Two of the pages, I personally related to from the book was

• Circle of Influence and Circle of Concern. It is very essential for an individual to identify things within your circle of influence and spend a large amount of time on things that you can control or influence. At the same time, there are things that are not in your influence but in the outer circle, which the circle of concern.

• Pyramid representation of Purpose, Mastery and Achievement. Purpose being the top most and ultimate step in this pyramid.

I enjoyed reading this book, and wished could have read this in earlier stages of my career. This book is highly recommended for all the blooming corporate individuals as it instills powerful techniques and application of time allocation which is necessary for self-improvement.
