A Cage of Desires --
Shuchi Singh Kalra
Finally completed the book given by my Santee Jaya. I took my time
to read this one, as I could resonate so much with the story line and at many
instances it actually showed me the mirror .
Book talks about the challenges of women that we need to go thru
to make our own self a priority, about how she needs to drive her desires,
passions , journey of chasing her dreams and fighting for her rights.
Highlight of the book is on freedom for every married women who tend to be
caged with her desires. The story is about Renu who was married with 2 kids and
second character “Maya” , and how their lives are connected.
The story of Renu is something which most of us would connect
with. She stays in a marriage rather in a relationship for the fear of society,
ignoring her own desires, dreams that she wished to pursue. As a woman,
how she is supposed to be available to fulfill her duties and desires of
the men in her life which could either be her father, brother, husband, son,
father-in-law etc. Renu being an emotional person by nature, and her
longing for the emotional connect which is missing in her married life.
She takes solace in her second identity, that of Maya and lives
her life by way of writing and putting her expression in form of words. Will
this remian a secret ??
The story is about how Renu develops and finds her way towards
finding the right person as well as the right life that she deserves. It is all
about love, trust, social norms, fear of being accepted , seeking validation
and relationships.
Overall a nice slow paced read if one likes to read women centric
stories 🙂
